The Andaman & Nicobar Islands is a Union Territory of India located in the Indian Ocean. The territory comprises two island groups, the Andaman Islands and the Nicobar Islands. Havelock Island is the largest of the islands which comprise Ritchie’s Archipelago, a chain of islands to the east of Great Andaman in the Andaman Islands. Havelock is situated 57 km North East of Capital City Port Blair. The island is named after Henry Havelock, a British general active in India.

Cellular Jail:

The Cellular Jail situated in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands was completed in 1906. The prison was known to house many notable Indian activists during the struggle for India’s independence. The Cellular Jail is one of the murkiest chapters in the history of the colonial rule in India.

Museums:

There are some museums are located in Andaman. The Marine Museum, Fisheries Museum and Anthropological Museum, are the three of the main museums that is witness to a major influx of tourists and visitors. The Aberdeen Bazaar in Port Blair serves as a major haunt for the tourists as you can buy some lovely shell and wooden handiwork items.

Gandhi Park:

The Mahatma Gandhi National Park is located about 30 Kms away from the capital city of Port Blair in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. It comprises of 15 small and large Islands of which only three are open to visitors. This beautiful park at Port Blair has facilities like amusement rides, safe water sports, nature trail around the lake, garden, restaurant and historic remains like Japanese Temple as well as a bunker.

Cuisine in Andaman and Nicobar can be attributed to this place but there are plenty of Burmese restaurants here. Tea, rice and flour have become regular ingredients in their diet. They are believed to be expert cooks and continuously experiment with their dishes. Even though it is known for great meat, Jarawas still don’t hunt it. The availability of food and the difficulty of catching it decide the value of the food. That is why fruits and vegetables, roots and nuts are considered the lowest in the food chain.
