Chiranjeevi Hanuman

Chiranjeevi means immortal, Lord Anjaneya or Hanuman is called as Chiranjeeva. According to ancient history lord Anjaneya got his chiranjeeva name from lord Rama. And according to another story he got chiranjiva name from the Lord Brahma’s boon and Lord Indira’s Boon.

Chiranjeeva Hanuman is believed to be an incarnation of the omni-potent Lord Shiva. Hanuman is the son of Anjana and Vayu – the Lord of the Winds. Hanuman known for the steadfast devotion towards Lord Rama, he is revered for the pivotal role he played in the mythological epic Ramayana.

In Ramayana, a constant companion to Lord Rama after their first encounter, Hanuman assisted his idol in the battle to rescue Goddess Sita from the Lakan King Ravana. The monkey-faced Lord Hanuman bought the medicinal herb, named Sanjeevani booti to save Laxmana’s life at a critical juncture of the war.

Lord Hanuman is one out of the few, who obtained several boons from many Gods such as Lord Shiva, Indra, Surya, Kuber, Vishwakarma, Kamadeva, etc.,. And Lord Brahma granted the biggest boon to Hanuma – that he can never be killed. This is the reason why Hindu scriptures mention Hanuman as a ‘Chiranjeeva or Chiranjeevi’- one who is born to be immortal and spiritually enlightened.
